Research laboratory of Dr. Prathap Parameswaran
5. Anaerobic Co-Digestion of complementary waste streams is an area that is rapidly changing the landscape of sustainable bioenergy, beyond municipal wastewater treatment plants, and to include agricultural and other industrial practices.
Dr. Parameswaran has a proven track record of having worked with pig waste and paper sludge co-digestion with valuable insights of the research methodology and the interpretation of its outcomes. With an ever increasing amount of food wastes being generated within the urban infrastructure, the need for co-digestion of the food wastes with municipal sludge in Anaerobic digesters within wastewater treatment plants is urgent. Dr. Parameswaran is involved in developing research methodologies to first optimize the ratios of the food waste: municipal sludge that could be subjected to successful digestion, while also help develop techniques for accelerated digestion of bioplastics.
